From clinical expertise across the quality use of medicines, through to in-pharmacy health services and consultations, the role of Pharmacists cannot be understated.
As one of the most accessible health care providers, Pharmacists are readily available to you as a constant, trusted health partner, ensuring continual care and support.
That is why on 25 September every year, Pharmacy 777 celebrates World Pharmacists Day - Opens in new tab. To recognise, acknowledge and say thank you to Pharmacists for their dedication and commitment in serving their patients and communities every day.
This year’s theme ‘Empowering Pharmacists for healthier futures’ highlights their vital role as part of the wider health care network in supporting the evolving healthcare needs of all Australians.

This includes Pharmacists of the future. Pharmacy Students, Intern Pharmacists and the pharmacy teams that are all critical in helping to provide pharmacy services that are world class.”
Speaking on this year’s theme, International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) - Opens in new tab President, Mr Paul Sinclair AM MPS said, “Empowering pharmacists means equipping them with the competencies, recognition and working environments necessary to meet evolving health needs.
Pharmacists are uniquely positioned at the intersection of medicines supply, scientific innovations and patient care delivery.
When they are enabled to practise to the full extent of their expertise, health systems are more accessible, more responsive and more sustainable.”
This sentiment echoed across the country as State Governments partner with the pharmacy sector and learning institutions to provide training as well as expanding investment into education, enabling integration of Pharmacists into primary care and supporting them to provide enhanced access to health services and treatments.
“The role of community pharmacy continues to evolve,” Kim said.
“We’ve seen Pharmacists step up during the pandemic with national immunisation programs being delivered successfully. This year, we’re seeing more people than ever before visiting community Pharmacists for vaccinations. Pharmacists have been able to support women’s
health care access including treatment for uncomplicated UTI and resupply of the Oral Contraceptive Pill and further expanded scope.
From medication management, to promoting health education, and patient continuity of care across life stages and health sectors, Pharmacists are there for every Australian.
Our aim is always to continue to be a trusted partner and support to the wider health care network, strengthening collaboration and ensuring that improving patient outcomes is the primary concern."
