Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that affects the liver. It can spread through contact with infected blood and certain body fluids.
Most people do not require blood tests before or after hepatitis B vaccination. However, your Doctor or Pharmacist may recommend testing if you are at higher risk of hepatitis B infection or need to confirm your response to vaccination.

* Hepatitis B catch-up vaccination services vary between states and territories. In South Australia and Queensland, pharmacists may be able to assess and provide hepatitis B catch-up vaccinations. In other states, a referral from a GP or another immunisation provider may be required. Speak with your local 777 Pharmacist to check state eligibility to vaccinate for catch up vaccinations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Side effects from the Hepatitis B vaccines are uncommon and usually mild and temporary, which can include:
- Soreness at the injection site
- Low grade temperature (fever)
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Muscle or joint pain
It is important to wait for 15 minutes after every vaccination so the pharmacist can monitor for any side effects and provide prompt care if needed.
Anaphylaxis is rare, however, if the side effect following immunisation is unexpected, persistent or severe, or if you are worried about yourself or your child’s condition after a vaccination, see your Doctor, Pharmacist, or Immunisation Nurse as soon as possible or go directly to the hospital.
Speak with your local Pharmacy 777 Pharmacist to confirm vaccine availability, pricing, and administration fees before your appointment.
