HPV is a very common virus spread through sexual contact.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) involves genital to skin contact which includes vaginal, anal, or oral sex through tiny breaks in the skin. It is not transmitted via blood or body fluids e.g., semen.
It is a common sexually transmitted virus, with more than 8 out of 10 people (80%) contracting the virus at some point in their lifetime. It can affect anyone who is or has been sexually active, even if they have only experienced sexual contact once. It is very common to be infected with one or more types of HPV shortly after sexual activity starts.
Most people do not experience any symptoms of HPV and the virus often goes away by itself. However, for some people HPV causes genital warts or cancer.
The HPV vaccine helps prevent infection with HPV that causes cervical cancer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Side effects after receiving the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine are usually only very mild which include pain, fatigue, redness, itching, and swelling at the site of the injection.
These symptoms occur in about four in five cases and should go away quickly. They can be treated with an ice pack or paracetamol if needed.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination provides future protection by preventing infection with cancer-causing types of HPV before sexual activity begins. HPV can be acquired from the very first sexual encounter and from just one sexual partner. People in monogamous relationships, or those who have not been sexually active for many years, can still carry or acquire HPV.
While condoms and dental dams can reduce the risk of HPV transmission, they do not provide complete protection as HPV can infect areas not covered.
However, they remain important for protecting against many other sexually transmitted infections.
Speak with your local Pharmacy 777 Pharmacist to confirm vaccine availability, pricing, and administration fees before your appointment.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is not routinely recommended for adults aged 26 years and over, as the vaccine is most effective when given at a younger age and its benefit decreases with age due to prior HPV exposure.
However, some adults may still benefit based on their past exposure and future risk. Speak with your GP or local 777 Pharmacist if you are unsure whether vaccination is suitable for you.
