Absence From Work Certificates
After a private and confidential consultation, your 777 Pharmacist can provide an Absence from Work Certificate (which is not to be confused with a medical certificate, refer to the FAQs below).

Absence From Work Certificates at a Pharmacy are available for use for Personal Or Carers Leave
Pharmacists can issue certificates that relate to minor ailments within their scope of practice either:
Personal leave – if you are not fit for work due to illness or injury.
Carer’s leave – if you provide care or support to a family or household member who is sick or injured or affected by an emergency.
Information to Note
A Pharmacist delivered Absence from Work Certificate can only be issued for short periods of leave up to two days, relating to an illness or injury, and cannot be backdated.
Leave Certificates from a Pharmacist cannot:
- Be provided for absences relating to compassionate leave.
- Be provided for absences relating to pregnancy, however a Pharmacist may consider it is within their scope of practice to issue a certificate to a pregnant woman for a minor ailment.
- State a person is fit to return to work.
- Act as an extension to an existing Medical Certificate.
- Be bulk billed.
- Replace medical treatment or diagnosis. If your illness/injury persists or worsens, visit your Doctor.
What to Expect
The Pharmacist will complete a consultation with the unwell person (you or immediate family or household member).
Bring relevant medical information with you, as well as identification.

During the consultation your Pharmacist will:
- assess whether you are unfit for your work, or whether your family/ household member requires your care.
- if appropriate, provide a written certificate stating the days for which you will require leave from work.
- refer you to a doctor if your illness or injury is outside a pharmacist’s ability to assess.

Yes they are different. An absence from work certificate is less formal, for 1-2 days of sick leave from work, while a medical certificate can be used in more formal cases and for a longer period of time.
