Pharmacy 777 supports placement announcement for pharmacy students

The Federal Government announcement that paid placement support will be extended to pharmacy and allied health students has been welcomed by the 777 Group.

The announcement is a game changer for pharmacy students and a landmark development for Australia’s future health work force.

The decision is long overdue according to 777 Group Founder, Director Kim Brotherson.

“The 777 Group welcomes the paid placement support announcement for Pharmacy Students,” Kim said.

“This addresses what has been a fundamental injustice, where students in the past have been required to undertake mandatory placements without consideration to the financial burden it places on them. Australia needs Pharmacists now more than ever before and this financial support will allow them to focus on their studies. The news is a positive step forward for the profession and a much-needed investment for the next generation of future Pharmacists.”

The announcement has also been welcomed by the Health Services Union, which described paid placements as "a practical investment in the future of Medicare and the health, aged care and disability services Australians rely on."

"We look forward to seeing the opportunities this creates, including paving the way for more students to consider building their experience in rural communities and helping support regional patients,” Kim said.

“This is an important moment for student Pharmacists and will help ensure all Australians have access to highly skilled health professionals, no matter where they live."
