20/03/2024

The 2023 MIMS/Guild Intern of the Year Award was announced during the Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference and Trade Exhibition (APP2024) opening plenary .

Portelli was nominated by his preceptor who described him as a fantastic intern who has held the pharmacy profession to the highest level and provided exceptional customer service to his patients.

Portelli accepted his award in front of hundreds of his pharmacy peers.

“Winning the 2023 Intern of the Year Award is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the dedication and passion I bring to pharmacy,” he said.

“Being recognised with this award reinforces my commitment to delivering exceptional care.

“The nomination process was an opportunity to showcase my skills, knowledge, and dedication, and I’m grateful for the support of my preceptor and colleagues who believed in me throughout this journey.”

Portelli said a key standout for him was his involvement in the Little Scientists Program during his intern year.

The purpose of Little Scientists is “to create joyful STEM experiences for young children in every corner of the country and foster curiosity, critical thinking, and resilience in the next generations.”

As part of the program, Portelli engaged with local children in the community to participate in activities which aimed to develop their interest in science – the foundation of pharmacy.

In addition to Little Scientists, Portelli has tailored the delivery primary healthcare specifically for his patients within his local community through the development of a first aid treatment brochure.

This brochure covers ailments commonly experienced in the Pilbara region where Pharmacy 777 is located.

As 2023 MIMS/Guild Intern of the Year, Portelli is provided the opportunity to experience APP2024 on the Gold Coast which gives great exposure to the latest industry information and innovative products and services.

He also receives a cash prize of $4,500 courtesy of MIMS Australia to further his pharmacy career and education.

The Guild thanked MIMS Australia for its ongoing support of the Intern of the Year Award.
