Prescribing Pharmacist Consultations
Your pharmacist can now do more for you
State governments across Australia are progressively introducing pilot programs that authorise pharmacists to consult and prescribe for selected health conditions. Pharmacists delivering these services have completed additional, university accredited training to ensure they are fully equipped to provide safe, evidence based and patient centred care to support you with your symptoms.
How can you benefit from this service?
Each state has approval to deliver services for different acute, and in some states, chronic conditions. This means you can access trained pharmacists for support with concerns such as nausea and vomiting, ear pain, dermatitis and reflux. Our pharmacists work collaboratively with your GP to ensure you receive safe, coordinated and comprehensive care.
What to expect?
Your initial consultation may take between 10 and 40 minutes, depending on the nature of your concern. During this time, the pharmacist will ask questions about your medical and social history to gain a comprehensive understanding of your overall health and wellbeing. A physical examination may also be conducted if clinically appropriate.
Together with the pharmacist, you will develop a tailored management plan for your presenting condition. In some cases, this may not require a prescription, as the pharmacist can provide guidance and support to help manage your symptoms effectively.
